Kevin is a fourth-generation resident of Kern County. The grandson of a cattle rancher and the son of a firefighter, he grew up on the east side of Bakersfield.
At a young age, Kevin fulfilled a dream of starting his own business by opening Kevin O’s Deli. He quickly learned firsthand how government too often is an obstacle to success — a lesson that compelled Kevin to enter public service.
Kevin worked hard to grow his business, eventually selling the deli to pay his way through California State University Bakersfield, where he received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in business.
Kevin married his high school sweetheart, Judy. They still live in the first house they ever bought together – the Bakersfield home where they raised their two children, Connor and Meghan.
Kevin McCarthy is a committed conservative, who strongly believes that we must protect the founding principles of our nation. He has built a strong conservative record and brought people together to make our community safer and stronger.
Our community is home to some of the richest agricultural land, energy resources, and state-of-the-art aerospace innovation. The role we play in our national and world economies is a tremendous point of pride.
But what makes our community special are the people who we interact with every day — at schools, in service, and at community events. Kevin is committed to serving his neighbors — especially, our veterans.
He has personally intervened with the federal government on behalf of our veterans and other community members when their voices have been lost or ignored. Whether it is recovering medals earned decades ago or ensuring our country keeps its promise to those who have served, Kevin has proven he works for you.
That is why when Congress is in session Kevin sleeps on the couch in his office and flies home to nearly every weekend to be with family, friends and constituents. He may commute east for work, but Bakersfield is his home.
Kevin has earned a conservative record, fighting for policies that will grow our economy, keep our country safe, protect our values and stop the president’s unlawful executive overreach.
In 2008, Kevin successfully fought to include a ban on earmark projects in the Republican Party platform – and when House Republicans took the majority, earmarks were abolished.
Troubled over the government picking corporate winners and losers, Kevin voted against both TARP bailouts and the auto bailouts. He voted against President Obama’s wasteful failed stimulus package.
Democrats in Washington used the great recession as an excuse to grow the size of government. But Kevin has led the fight to reduce government spending and reform entitlements to protect future generations from carrying the burden of Democrats’ irresponsible decisions. From 2011 – 2014 Republicans cut spending year after year for the first time since the Korean War. In 2015, Republicans secured the first entitlement reform in decades — saving taxpayers $2.9 trillion.
Committed to protecting the sanctity of life, Kevin has a 100% rating from the National Right to Life Committee. He took action by successfully reviving legislation to ban 20-week abortions, which passed the House 242-184 under his leadership.
An avid hunter, Kevin has earned an “A” rating from the NRA and he successfully fought the Obama Administration’s attempts to restrict popular sporting ammunition.
